The newest edition of Willamette Living features my friend, Jerry McGill. Jerry is a writer, filmmaker, overall artistic type, from New York City. He has lived in Oregon for the past fifteen years where he has held various jobs including case manager for homeless youth, journalist, high school teacher, and customer service trainer.
At the age of 13, Jerry had dreams of attending the famous high school of the Performing Arts when he was randomly shot in the back and paralyzed. Thirty years later, he wrote a letter to the unknown shooter and that letter became an inspiring book. His memoir, Dear Marcus: A Letter To The Man Who Shot Me, was published by Random House three years ago, and his latest novel, a thriller, Othello’s Brother, is due out in the fall.
Jerry is a light of inspiration, determination and hope. And a friend to many.
